The director, Joel Silver, for Ashley’s upcoming horror movie The Apparition sat down with Fearnet.com and talked about his upcoming horrow project The Apparition, which Ashley have the leading role in.

On horror in general and The Apparition:
I love horror movies. I loved them as a kid. I love them now. Some work better than others. We have a haunted house movie coming out next year called The Apparition, which is really, really, really scary. I like haunted house movies. Paranormal Activity was a haunted house movie, which cost virtually nothing. Robert Zemeckis said to me years ago, “Horror movies are the only movies that can change your physical being. They can actually make your heart race and make you sweat.” A good love story can make you cry, but what a horror movie can do is really effect you; and I think that [Splice] can do that. You just can’t believe what you’re seeing. And it’s not like you’re on [Avatar's] Pandora – it’s a character-based movie. Though it has some Pandora elements.

On what makes The Apparition unique:
It’s a good idea. It has Poltergeist elements in it. It takes place in a kind of cul de sac in the valley. In an area where a lot of houses didn’t get built, so they’re kind of alone in this unformed neighborhood. There’s no kind of specter that came from the graveyard it’s built on, so it doesn’t have that. But it has that kind of vibe. And the kids are great – Sebastian Stan and Ashley Greene are terrific in the movie. And they commit to it – Ashley understands the notion of committing to an idea that’s not real. They commit to it, and they’re good, and it’s really scary. So that’s the key. It’s not a hugely expensive movie, but it takes the idea of movies like Paranormal Activity, which have worked recently, to a level on which the audience will be lulled into thinking, “Well, I know what this is.” And then it isn’t.

The TWILIGHT SAGA might not be hardcore horror fans cup of tea, but there’s no denying the films’ popularity—as well as that of its young cast members. Ashley Greene, who plays Alice of the vampiric Cullen clan, will be seen in ECLIPSE this summer, but the 23-year-old actress is also participating in several non-TWILIGHT projects, including the supernatural horror film THE APPARITION.

Greene was at SXSW, and spoke with Cinematical about the movie. “THE APPARITION is something I’m currently filming,” she says. “We just got back from Germany this week. We were there for about two months filming at Babelsberg Studio and we start filming again in about a week in LA. It’s a psychological thriller that centers on these two characters, Kelly and Ben, who are played by myself and Sebastian Stan [THE COVENANT]. We’re a couple who are haunted by a supernatural force, and we have to figure out what this thing wants.

“We want it to be elevated and scary along the lines of POLTERGIEST, so I definitely didn’t want Kelly to be one of those scared, dumb girls in a horror movie. I look at a movie like THE STRANGERS, and the scariest part about that movie is that these people do everything that you would have done and that you wanted them to do, and yet things still start happening. That’s definitely along the lines of what we want to do, because that’s frightening.”

Greene is thankful for the doors that TWILIGHT has opened for her, but she doesn’t want to be pigeonholed as a scream queen. “I’m looking at THE APPARITION thinking, ‘OK, this is a horror film. Do I really want to go down that path?’ Because even though TWILIGHT is certainly not a horror film, it is labeled a ‘vampire’ film and it could be mistaken as such. So the fact that THE APPARITION is as far away from that mainstream horror film as you can get relaxed me, because I wanted to be a part of it. TWILIGHT has given me a lot of opportunities, and it’s put me in a position and enabled me to be able to say, ‘No, I don’t want to do that film, and I’m not going to do that, and I am going to do this.’ I’m in a very good position.”

Tom Felton recently talked to MTV about his Apparition co-stars. This is what he said about Ashley:

“She seems like a very, really positive, very, very friendly young lady, in no way at all ‘Hollywood’. You know, I didn’t have any expectations. In no way is she a diva or anything like that. She’s a lovely girl and clearly extremely talented, which excites me to be working with such great young talent.” – Tom Felton

ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned that Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise, has joined the writer/director Todd Lincoln’s The Apparition at Dark Castle.

Felton joins previously announced cast members Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, Julianna Guill, Luke Pasqualino and Suzanne Ford. Little is known about the film’s story other than it concerns a couple haunted by a supernatural presence in the wake of a college experiment.

The project, produced by Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman, is now filming.
